Sometimes we miss what the artist really puts into a painting. A small painting is really a miniature or very tiny detail or abstraction of reality. In this case the detail head of this hawk is “Blown up” three or four times actual size depending on your computer screen so you can see the detail. The actual measurement of the detail above in the original painting is no more that  1 3/8 inches. Blown up even more, it becomes almost an abstract painting, demonstrating the concept that “all art is abstract”.

My theory of art is that art is form, based on color relationships, patterns, shapes, mass, space or depth and textures. We may see these as recognizable objects such as a bird or a landscape, but they are made up of all these form elements. The devil or “Magic” is in the details and here you can see how form makes up this small painting.
