Take note of the size of this painting. It is a much larger scale work than I usually post on my blog. I had it on the back burner in my studio for a while and have been experimenting with doing larger works based on some of my earlier small paintings. Everyone who has seen it has encouraged me to post it on the blog to see what kind of reaction I get. Let me know what you think and send an email if you’re interested in it. It would command a strong presence on any wall.

In this painting I’ve included Walt Disney character blocks of Mickey Mouse and Pluto The Pup with a stack of Froebel blocks in the background. Friedrich Froebel’s (reputed to be the inventor of kindergarten) Froblox or “Gifts” created these blocks in 1830’s for kindergarten children to encourage creativity and design abilities are still available for purchase today. I’ve mentioned these blocks before HERE. The Disney blocks encouraged children to learn the alphabet and word meaning related to a picture image of the word, while the Frobel blocks were intended to encourage design and building skills as attested to by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

This is a reworking and update of a painting done last summer. I wanted to get back to this painting and work on reflections and highlights to bring it up to date.

I've alway enjoyed working with small objects and zooming in to see details and textures that we sometimes overlook. If it's not fun I'll stop doing it.
