When I spotted this wren sitting alone on the fence, it seemed lonely and waiting for someone to join it. The mood of the bird created the idea for the painting.

I've reworked this painting from a previous posting by adding more texture and color. I've photographed this pair for over a year now and this composition is one of my favorites.

--> -->While on the bike path on Lansing River Trail, near Sycamore Creek Golf Course, we watched this Blue Heron fishing in the river.  I’d wanted to see a Blue Heron for a long time so we watched this bird fishing for about a half hour, but he never caught a fish while we were there. This great bird seems something out of primeval history.

I'm back in my studio

I’m back working in my studio after a long absence. I should explain that my wife and I have done a lot of traveling this summer and also took a good part of the summer moving into a new condo in Lansing, Michigan and in completely decorating and redesigning our living space so it works for us. While we still have our house in Parma, we will be spending most of our time in Lansing where my wife has a new business going.

First we spent some time traveling in Germany and south of France. I gathered a lot of material and will be using some of it as I get back to work in my new studio location here in Lansing. I’m sure I won’t be posting daily at first but will try to get back on a schedule of regular painting and posting.

Thanks to all of you for being patient with me as I recharge my creative batteries.

Paul

As a teenager hunting pheasant in Illinois, I didn’t realize this bird was introduced rather than a native species. Because it fit into the environment so well it was much later that I learned it has been introduced into America from Eurasia in the 1800’s.

Although I don’t see this beautiful bird often here in my area of Michigan, there seems to be a good number of these birds in Southeast Michigan and I’ll sometimes see one wander through my yard. This pair was spotted one early morning in the cornfield near us and I’m now hunting them only with a camera and paintbrush.
