When this Carolina Wren showed up in my Michigan backyard in January, I thought he was out of place. I had thought wrens all migrated to warmer climates in the winter. Some research told me this bird does indeed winter in Michigan, so here is my view of a Carolina Wren in Michigan in January.

We were driving into the mountains in Sichuan province when we came upon these ancient stone lions. They were created as part of the tomb of FAN Min Que in LuShan County, near Yaan city, Sichuan, China during Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 205). I’m always fascinated by the expressive quality of such figures so I’ve tried to capture that in this small painting.
